UniPort Elects New Deputy Vice-Chancellors

The University of Port Harcourt has elected three new deputy vice-chancellors at its 488th Extraordinary Senate Meeting held on August 6.

Professor Rosemary Ogu, a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, was elected Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics). Professor Chukwudi Onyeasor will serve as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), while Professor Angela Frank-Briggs takes up the role of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development).

Vice-Chancellor Professor Owunari Abraham Georgewill congratulated the newly elected officials, saying the Senate had made “excellent choices” and expressing confidence that they would contribute to the growth and advancement of the university.

Prof Ogu, who previously headed the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Port Harcourt and its teaching hospital, holds fellowships from the West African College of Surgeons and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. She has also published widely on women’s health and reproductive medicine. She currently serves as National President of the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria.

The appointments are expected to strengthen the institution’s leadership and drive research, administration, and academic development.
