Ondo Doubles Bursary for Indigent Students

The Ondo State Government has approved a 100% increase in bursary payments for indigent students from the state studying in accredited institutions across Nigeria.

The announcement was made in Akure by the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Laolu Akindolire, during a consultative session on the 2026 budget. He said the increment reflects Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration’s commitment to investing in education and building human capital.

Akindolire noted that while many states are struggling with tight finances, Ondo chose to prioritise the welfare of its students, describing the move as both bold and strategic. He added that the government views education as a transformative tool and believes that supporting young indigenous people will strengthen the state’s economy in the future.

The bursary increase is expected to alleviate financial pressure on students from low-income backgrounds and ensure that more of them complete their education without being deterred by economic hardship.
