The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council, Ondo State Axis, has appealed to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to help reduce the high cost of student accommodation in the state. In an open letter signed by NANS JCC Chairman, Comrade Adekanye Mayomi Adeboye, the students said many of them are now at risk of being homeless due to skyrocketing rent.
The student body is asking the state government and House of Assembly to regulate hostel and house rent, especially around campuses in Akungba, Akure, Owo, Ondo, Ikare, and Okitipupa. The letter was also sent to the Speaker of the House and the Commissioner for Education. Adeboye said the situation is urgent and affects thousands of students across Ondo State. He urged the governor to act fast before more students are forced to drop out or live in unsafe conditions due to a lack of affordable housing.
