At a time when hope seems dim in Nigeria’s education system, one teenager from Warri has lit a bright candle of excellence.
Ebule Oritsemeyiwa Precious, a final-year student of Federal Government College, Warri, stunned many when he scored an impressive 334 out of 400 in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) at a time when 75 percent of other candidates scored below 200.
In a country where mass failure is fast becoming the norm, Ebule’s performance has not only defied the odds but also brought a refreshing reminder that brilliance still exists in the system.
With a near-perfect score of 98 in Mathematics and another 98 in Physics, Ebule has a head for numbers. He also scored 85 in Chemistry and 53 in English. Interestingly, this was not a one-off win. In the UTME mock examination held in April, the Warri-born genius had already scored 326.
Beyond his academic achievements in the classroom, Ebule is no ordinary teenager. He is a columnist for Fresh Angle International, where he writes a special maths segment called MathsGE With MeyiBule. For someone so young, contributing regularly to a media platform is a rare feat—and a clear indicator of his passion and discipline.
His academic interests are rooted in a home that values education and media. His father, Ebule Anthony Metsese, is the Co-Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Fresh Angle International. It is little wonder Precious has grown up with a strong sense of purpose, discipline, and excellence.
Now, the 16-year-old has set his sights on the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE) in Effurun, Delta State, where he plans to study Mechanical Engineering. If his current trajectory is anything to go by. In that case, he is well on his way to becoming one of Nigeria’s future innovators.
While the national conversation is dominated by concerns over poor UTME results and the falling standard of education, Ebule Precious stands out as a symbol of hope. He reminds us that amidst the cracks, there are still solid stones. And that with the right environment, support, and personal drive, success is still possible.
