President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Idia Nibukun Ize-Iyamu as Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, effective 18 August.
Prof Ize-Iyamu, currently Dean of the University of Benin’s School of Dentistry, has worked at UBTH for 27 years, rising from junior registrar to honorary consultant and head of department. She has trained internationally, including at Oxford University and the University of Washington, and has over 55 published works. Health Minister Muhammad Ali Pate, who announced the appointment on behalf of the president, said her leadership would combine clinical excellence with community-focused innovation.
Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo welcomed the move, saying it aligned with efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure in the state.
