The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has advanced its grassroots sports agenda with the successful staging of the North-East Basic Education Schools Sports (BESS) Games in Yola, Adamawa state.
The weeklong competition, held from August 25 to 31, 2025, featured participants from Adamawa, Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Yobe, and Taraba States. Adamawa State dominated the tournament, winning all the gold medals on offer, a feat attributed to its commitment to UBEC’s sports development framework backed by policy and funding.
Executive Chairman of the Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB), Dr. Murtala Umar Babayi, credited the achievement to UBEC’s leadership under Dr. Aisha Garba, commending the Commission for integrating sports as a key component of basic education.
