The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has launched a drive to reduce the number of out-of-school children and increase enrolment across Nigeria. The announcement was made during a South regional enrolment drive in Uyo.
Executive Secretary Aisha Garba, represented by her Special Assistant, Ibrahim Gold, stated that UBEC is committed to ensuring that all school-age children are enrolled, stay in school, and complete their basic education. The commission has supplied learning materials, improved teacher availability and quality, and encouraged more involvement from communities through School-Based Management Committees.
Garba added that UBEC, working in collaboration with UNICEF, has created a Framework of Action on Out-of-School Children to guide enrollment drives, share best practices, and support state-led campaigns that align with national education goals.
According to UBEC, these steps aim to make learning better, help children gain key reading and math skills, reduce the number of out-of-school children, and promote inclusive education across the country.
