UBTH Chief Elected President of Orthodontists’ Association

The Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Professor Idia Ize-Iyamu, has been elected the 10th national president of the Nigerian Association of Orthodontists (NAO).

She succeeds Dr Olayinka Adeyinka and will serve a three-year term. Until her election, she was the association’s vice president.

In her acceptance speech, Prof Ize-Iyamu thanked members for their confidence and pledged to advance orthodontic practice in Nigeria. She stated that her leadership would focus on innovation, training, and expanding access to orthodontic care, noting that only 74 orthodontists currently serve Nigeria’s population of over 237 million.

She also promised an inclusive and transparent administration, urging members to work with her to strengthen the profession and improve oral health outcomes.

Dr Adeyinka expressed confidence that her successor would build on the association’s achievements.

The investiture ceremony in Benin was attended by the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, the Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, the former Deputy Governor, Pius Odubu, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and senior officials of UBTH.
