The University of Ilorin has officially commissioned its National Space Research and Development Agency/Defence Space Administration (NASRDA/DSA) Research Centre, advancing the institution’s drive for scientific innovation and national development.
The centre, facilitated by AVM Lanre Ibrahim Olohuntoyin (rtd), was among the key projects unveiled during the University’s Golden Jubilee on November 25, 2025.
At the ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, described the facility as a milestone, positioning UNILORIN as a hub for cutting-edge research.
He noted the centre will enhance training, satellite technology, data analysis, and space-related studies across multiple disciplines.
The initiative, in collaboration with NASRDA and the Defence Space Administration, also aims to strengthen national security, environmental monitoring, climate research, and communication technology.
Representing the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Professor M. O. Sunmonu, commended all partners involved and expressed confidence that the centre will evolve into one of the University’s most impactful research hubs.
The facility is expected to support advanced research, foster international collaborations, and provide critical data for agriculture, disaster management, security, and climate studies.
