The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a significant move to curtail exam malpractice in West Africa.
During a meeting with regional secondary school principals, WAEC revealed plans to issue customised question papers for individual candidates in key subjects.
This new system, effective immediately, applies to English Language (Papers 1 and 3), Biology 1, Mathematics 1, and Economics 1.
Each student will receive a unique set of questions directly linked to their personalised OMR sheet.
This measure is expected to disrupt practices such as cheating, impersonation, and question leaks that have plagued past examinations.
WAEC officials said that supervisors must ensure strict adherence to this new system. In cases where a student’s customised paper is unavailable, an emergency version and a standard OMR sheet will be issued.
Experts and educators are backing the move, encouraging parents and teachers to prepare students for this significant change.
A Lagos-based teacher called for a shift to diligent study, stating that this new era would phase out shortcuts and illicit support during examinations.
As WAEC steps up efforts to restore credibility in the region’s education system, this initiative signals a new era of fairness and integrity in West African examinations.
