Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has laid the foundation for Curators University in Modakeke, described as Africa’s first tertiary institution dedicated to artificial intelligence.
The ceremony, held at the weekend alongside the Ogunsua of Modakeke, Oba Joseph Olubiyi, marked what officials called a milestone for education and technology in the state. The university will offer courses in machine learning, computer hardware engineering, data analytics, arbitration and conflict resolution, as well as 3D printing and polymer science.
Governor Adeleke, represented by the Commissioner for Information, Dipo Eluwole, said the project aligns with his administration’s education plan, urging the promoters to make the institution one of Nigeria’s best both academically and culturally.
Founder Olusola Amusan highlighted the role of public-private partnerships in sustaining tertiary institutions, saying access to education at Curators University would be supported through endowment funds, government loans and private financing.
Chairman of the university’s groundbreaking committee, Abimbola Amusan, said the vision was to build a global hub for learning and innovation that would empower young people, create jobs and drive long-term growth. Oba Olubiyi urged Modakeke indigenes to emulate the initiative by investing in businesses and institutions at home.
