The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has praised the appointment of Professor Idia Ize-Iyamu as the first female Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
BEDC’s Managing Director, Jonathan Lawani, commended President Bola Tinubu for the decision, calling it a historic milestone. He said Ize-Iyamu’s achievement reflects resilience, visionary leadership, and a commitment to public service. Lawani, a former Commissioner for Environment and Sustainability, noted that her success proves gender is no barrier to excellence. “At BEDC, we believe leadership transforms communities. Her story will inspire professionals to serve with integrity and lead with courage,” he said. He congratulated the new CMD and wished her success in leading UBTH into a new era of medical leadership and excellence.
