The Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC) has taken the lead in Nigeria’s push to reform Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) systems to address the country’s widening skills gap and boost economic growth.
Speaking at the ongoing Multi-Stakeholder National Public Dialogue in Abuja, BDIC’s CEO/Managing Director, Gbande-Hembaor Terwase, represented by his Chief of Staff, Owoicho Igoji, said the agency is collaborating with key partners, including the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, GIZ, SDC, and the International Labour Organisation (ILO), to modernise Nigeria’s apprenticeship frameworks for the digital economy.
He stressed that the integration of ICT and digital skills into traditional apprenticeships is vital to tackling youth unemployment and aligning workforce development with emerging industries such as ICT and renewable energy.
According to Terwase, BDIC, in partnership with the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), is developing specialised training modules and innovation labs to equip apprentices with industry-relevant competencies.
BDIC’s leadership in this reform follows its recent recognition at the 2025 Bureau of Public Sector Reform (BPSR) and GovTech Awards, where it won Best State ICT Agency and Terwase received the Trailblazer Award for digital governance.
