Veteran teacher Oluwaluyi Uzorechi, fondly known as Mummy Perfect Praise, has appealed to the government at all levels to invest more in education and support teachers, rather than focusing mainly on taxing private schools.
Uzorechi made the call in Lagos while celebrating 50 years in the teaching profession. She recalled how her journey began in a broken home, where she was denied secondary education, before becoming a Grade III teacher in 1975 and later establishing Perfect Praise Schools in Isheri Olowora, Lagos.
She narrated how the school began with an empty classroom until she reduced fees, which quickly attracted pupils. “Within weeks, I had 50 children,” she said. Today, the school has evolved into a fully accredited institution with over 700 students and 57 faculty members.
Uzorechi stressed that the government must visit schools, encourage teachers, and prioritise education if Nigeria is to secure a brighter future for its children.
