Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, has announced the appointment of two new Deputy Vice Chancellors. Professor Williams Oluwole Adebayo is now the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), while Professor Michael Olufemi Oke has been appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor (Development).
The appointments were made after the University Senate elected both professors during its 296th regular meeting on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. According to the EKSU law, the Vice Chancellor presents names of candidates to the Senate, which then votes. The University Council gives the final approval. In this case, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Akin Oyebode, approved the appointments.
Professor Adebayo, a Professor of Geography, attended Moba Grammar School and later graduated with a B.Sc in Geography from the then Ondo State University. He holds a Master’s and Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Ibadan. He joined EKSU in 1989 and was promoted to the rank of professor in 2007. He has served in various positions, including Dean of Students and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. He is a member of several professional bodies.
Professor Oke, the new DVC (Development), studied at Notre Dame Grammar School and later earned his B.Sc. in Mathematics from the University of Benin. He went on to get his Master’s and Ph.D. from the University of Ilorin. He joined EKSU in 1993 and was promoted to the rank of professor in 2018. He has served as Head of both the Mathematics and Computer Science departments and is also a member of many mathematics-related professional associations. The EKSU community has welcomed the appointments and looks forward to their leadership and contribution to the university’s growth.
