The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), will hold its 104th Inaugural Lecture on Wednesday, September 17 2025.
The lecture, titled “This ‘Weird’ English: Who is Afraid of Evolution?”, will be delivered by Professor Bosede Sinmisola Sotiloye of the Institute of Communication and General Studies. A specialist in Teaching English as a Second Language, Prof. Sotiloye is expected to examine how the English language adapts and transforms in multilingual and global contexts.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babatunde Kehinde, will serve as Chief Host. The university said the lecture reflects its tradition of showcasing faculty research and contributing to national and international academic debate.
The event will begin at 2:00 p.m., with guests asked to be seated by 1:30 p.m. It will also be streamed live on FUNAAB’s official platforms, allowing for broader participation.
According to the university, inaugural lectures remain a forum for reflection and knowledge sharing, with this edition expected to spark discussion on the evolution of the English language in contemporary society.
