A technology expert has said that many Nigerian schools are wasting money because they are still using too much paper and manual records. He explained that if schools move to digital systems, they can save as much as ₦1.5 million every year.
Michael Emmanuel, who works with ExcelMind, said that most schools spend a significant amount of money on paperwork, admissions, fee collection, and student reports, which makes things slow and stressful. However, if they go digital, everything becomes faster, cheaper, and more organised.
He also mentioned that schools typically spend between ₦400,000 and ₦1.2 million in the first year to set up the system, depending on the school’s size. Nevertheless, after about three years, they begin to see the real benefit, saving from ₦300,000 up to ₦1.5 million every year.
Emmanuel advised schools to start gradually, perhaps by implementing fee payment and management systems, before transitioning entirely to digital records and communication. He added that in these modern times, schools do not really have a choice anymore; going digital is the only way to save money and work better.
