The Federal Government has rolled out a new technical education curriculum to help Nigerian students gain skills that fit today’s industries. Education Minister, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, said 26 trade subjects have been reviewed and simplified to meet both global and local economic needs.
The fresh curriculum aims to remove overload, sharpen practical skills, and make sure young Nigerians are ready for jobs in manufacturing, services, and the fast-growing digital sector. The federal government believes the move is a crucial step towards enhancing employment and supporting the nation’s economic growth.
However, education experts are quick to warn that the initiative will fail like the ones before it if the government does not support it adequately with funding, teacher training, and close monitoring. They argue that reforms often look good on paper but fail in practice, except that it is supported by a strong political will.
Still, the government insists the revamp will meet international standards and give Nigerian youths a more substantial base to either secure jobs or create their own businesses.
