The Federal Government has launched a $38 million ICT revolution targeting ten federal universities, including Bayero University Kano (BUK), under the Blueprint ICT Dev Project.
Backed by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), the initiative aims to bridge Nigeria’s digital gap by developing smart campuses, boosting hybrid learning, and upgrading ICT infrastructure across selected institutions.
The project was formally flagged off on July 1 at the National Universities Commission (NUC) headquarters in Abuja. Education Minister Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa described the project as a “golden opportunity” to elevate Nigerian universities to global relevance through digital innovation and research-driven teaching.
“This funding will raise digital literacy, improve internet bandwidth, and equip students with globally competitive ICT skills,” said Prof. Amina Mustapha, BUK’s Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Development). The French Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Marc Fonbaustier, AFD Country Director Xavier Muron, and NUC Executive Secretary Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu attended the launch and presented grant letters to the universities. The initiative is expected to improve teaching standards, enhance graduate employability, and cut the cost of education delivery by integrating modern technology into classrooms and research facilities.
