The management of the Federal University of Education Zaria (FUEZ) has placed a total ban on students giving gifts to lecturers during lectures, examinations, or any academic activity.
In a statement, the school said the practice amounts to academic corruption because it can affect fairness and integrity. While the university appreciates students showing gratitude to their teachers, it warned that such gifts could easily be seen as attempts to influence grades or decisions.
The directive made it clear that no student should offer gifts to any lecturer or academic staff during academic engagements. It also warned that any lecturer who collects or encourages such gifts will be guilty of misconduct and will face punishment under university rules and public service regulations.
Students were further cautioned that any effort to compromise lecturers through gifts or inducements will attract strict sanctions, as clearly stated in the Student Handbook.
