The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has renovated a block of classrooms at Aaya Community Primary School in Ogun State following appeals from the school over poor learning conditions.
The project, undertaken under the university’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, involved refurbishing two classrooms and donating teaching materials. It was officially handed over to the school on September 26.
Speaking at the commissioning, FUNAAB Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babatunde Kehinde, said the intervention was aimed at strengthening foundational education. He noted that universities depended on the quality of pupils produced at the primary level, adding that “without the efforts of teachers at this stage, the university cannot admit quality students.”
The head teacher, Mrs Dorcas Gbenjo, said pupils in senior classes had been studying under unsafe conditions before the renovation. She described the intervention as timely and “life-saving.”
Community representatives and pupils also expressed appreciation, with the head boy, Master Semilogo Babalola, speaking on behalf of the students.
Senior university officials, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Olawale Dairo and members of the CSR Committee, joined the vice-chancellor at the commissioning.
The university stated that the project was part of its broader initiative to support local schools and promote education in the community.
