Gunmen Kidnap UDUS Graduate, Demand ₦200m

Shock has gripped Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), after unknown gunmen abducted Basheerah Ojedeyi, a recent graduate of the Department of Radiography. The kidnappers are demanding a ransom of ₦200 million.

Ojedeyi, who was celebrated as the third-best graduating student in her department, was reportedly taken earlier this week, though details of the incident remain unclear. Her abduction has triggered widespread fear among students and staff, who say insecurity is fast creeping into university campuses.

A student, speaking anonymously, described her as “one of the most brilliant in her set,” adding that the news has left many unsettled.

Her family, devastated by the ordeal, has appealed for her immediate and safe release. Meanwhile, neither the Sokoto State Police Command nor the university management has made an official statement. The incident adds to growing concerns over safety in Nigeria’s higher institutions.
