The Kano State Government has pledged to work with UNESCO and the Republic of Korea to strengthen technical and vocational education through the Better Education for Africa’s Rise (BEAR III) project.
Education Commissioner Dr Ali Haruna Makoda, represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Bashir Baffa Muhammed, said the initiative would equip young people with practical skills relevant to the job market.
“The project aligns with our policy of empowering youth with market-driven skills that foster innovation and job creation,” he said during a meeting with the project’s technical team in Kano.
Officials said the programme will focus on agro-processing, crop value chains and institutional capacity, while also improving work-based learning and apprenticeships.
BEAR III regional coordinator Manish Joshi said the project aimed to equip young people with technical and generic skills to access decent employment through a stronger vocational training system.
The Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education, Professor Idris Bugaje, represented at the meeting, said new curricula tailored to Kano’s needs, including irrigation, were being developed. The initiative is supported by UNESCO and funded by the Korean government.
