The Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Olufemi Peters, says many graduates of the institution have risen to top positions in government, industry and academia, demonstrating the quality of education offered through open and distance learning.
Peters remarked at the university’s 29th matriculation ceremony held virtually on Thursday, where 17,611 new students were formally admitted across study centres nationwide.
He said the achievement of NOUN alumni proved that open and distance learning was not inferior to conventional university education. “Many of our graduates have risen to prominent positions in government, industry and academia, showing the high-quality education that NOUN provides,” he said.
Peters encouraged the new students to take advantage of the flexibility of NOUN’s learning model to pursue both academic and personal growth. “Your journey at NOUN is not just about earning a degree; it is about transforming yourself into a well-rounded, innovative and resourceful individual,” he said.
He added that NOUN remained the foremost open and distance learning institution in West Africa, committed to expanding access to higher education without barriers of time or location.
