The management of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, has suspended the ongoing Final Year Brethren (FYB) celebration after reports of disorder during the festivities.
In a memo issued on Monday, September 8, 2025, the Registrar’s office stated that the decision was made to protect peace and stability on campus. The directive, with reference number REG.20/VOLIV/193, ordered all full-time students to vacate the premises immediately.
Management said the move was necessary to maintain discipline ahead of the second semester examinations, which are due to begin on Monday, September 15. An official examination break has now been declared, giving students time to prepare while ensuring the academic calendar remains unchanged.
Security operatives have been placed on alert to enforce compliance, and students without clearance risk sanctions if found loitering on campus. The suspension has drawn mixed reactions, with some students describing it as harsh while others acknowledged that recent FYB events had become increasingly rowdy.
FYB celebrations, a long-standing tradition in many Nigerian institutions, are often seen as farewell gatherings for graduating students but have at times been linked to unrest and misconduct.
