Approximately 80 students from Ogbomoso Grammar School were recently trained in various skills to empower them for a productive future. The programme, held at the school over two days (July 16 and 18), was under the aegis of the non-governmental organisation Skill Up the Teenagers (S.U.T.).
The initiative has continued to make waves in youth empowerment, as participants have been trained in the rudiments of graphic design, crocheting, laptop repair, and solar installation.
The hands-on workshop, held free of charge, is viewed not only as creative and technical, but also as one that will be profitable for the beneficiaries in the future. Mr. Olatubosun Olajide, founder and coordinator of S.U.T., noted, “The training was completely free, staying true to S.U.T.’s mission of equipping teenagers between ages 13 and 19 with real-world skills at no cost to parents, students, or schools.”
“This initiative is more than imparting skills, it is about creating opportunity, confidence, and a mindset of self-reliance. It is noteworthy that we have been receiving enthusiastic feedback from both students and staff of the schools that have benefited from the initiative, ” Olajide added.
“The students displayed high levels of interest and engagement, and many discovered new talents and passions they never knew they had. This milestone marks another major success in our commitment to equipping teenagers (ages 13-19) with practical skills that can shape their futures.
“We are incredibly proud of the impact made and grateful to the school management for their warm reception and cooperation. Stay connected as we continue to skill up the next generation one school at a time,” it is further stated. Its next training programme will come up at Adeniran Memorial Grammar School on July 29 & 30.
