The University of Lagos Consultancy Services (UNILAG Consult Ltd.) has announced plans to honour the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Duoye Diri, with a book launch, an international public lecture, and the inauguration of a Professorial Chair in Leadership and Good Governance.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UNILAG Consult Ltd., Professor John Lekan Oyefara, disclosed this at a press conference held on Wednesday at the organisation’s headquarters in Akoka, Lagos.
The triple event is scheduled for Wednesday, November 5 2025, at the J.F. Ade-Ajayi Auditorium, University of Lagos. It will feature the launch of a book titled Leadership Chronicles of Governor Duoye Diri, an international lecture with speakers from within and outside Nigeria, and the formal establishment of a Professorial Chair in the governor’s honour.
Professor Oyefara described Governor Diri as “one of Nigeria’s most exemplary leaders,” noting that his administration reflects values of inclusiveness, innovation, and integrity. He said the initiatives aim to institutionalise the governor’s leadership ideals and promote academic inquiry into good governance in Africa.
He added that the Professorial Chair would serve as an academic legacy dedicated to research and policy engagement on ethics, transparency, and people-centred leadership.
During a question-and-answer session, Professor Hope Eghagha, General Editor of the UNILAG Consult Leadership Series, explained that the choice of Governor Diri was based on research evidence of his innovative governance style, including the use of drones to deliver medical supplies to remote communities.
He clarified that Governor Diri is not a beneficiary of the Professorial Chair but the financier of governance-related research it will support.
The event is expected to attract members of academia, policymakers, diplomats, and other dignitaries from Nigeria and abroad.
