Abducted Law Students Say They Paid ₦10m Each

Some of the abducted Nigerian Law School students have disclosed that they each paid the sum of N10 million to regain their freedom from the kidnappers.

The students also accused the Nigerian police of lying about the rescue operation. This is even as they said the abductors spoke Tiv, a tribe from Benue State, Nigeria. The students, who were kidnapped on their way to the Nigerian Law School, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State campus, narrated their ordeals while refuting claims by the police that they were rescued. They said they were released after their families paid N10 million each to the kidnappers.

According to them, the kidnappers spoke Tiv throughout their stay in the kidnappers’ den. They were quoted by Vanguard newspaper as saying: “Our families paid N10 million for each of us before we were released. The Police lied that they rescued us. It is a big lie. They did not do anything.” They further explained that: “We spent days without food, and they treated us like animals. We do not wish our enemies to go through what we went through.”
