Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has approved the state’s first-ever Tertiary Institution Games to promote sports and unity among students in higher institutions.
The event, organised by the Ministry of Tertiary Education, will bring together students from both public and private tertiary schools across the state to compete in various sporting activities.
According to the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof. Uche Eme-Uche, the initiative aims to help students develop teamwork, communication, and leadership skills through sports.
Speaking during the inaugural meeting of the Central Organising Committee (COC) in Umuahia, the committee’s chairman and Special Adviser to the Governor on Tertiary Education, Dr Emeka Enyiazu, said members were carefully selected to ensure a smooth and successful competition.
He noted that the Games will not only boost sports development in Abia but also provide a platform for discovering young talents who can represent the state in national and international tournaments.
