Ahmadu Bello University is helping its final-year students prepare for life after school with a new orientation programme focused on job hunting, NYSC mobilisation, and building functional networks.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, speaking through the Director of Advancement and International Education, Prof. Sani Abba Aliyu, advised the students to invest in strong peer connections that could shape their future careers.
Held by the university’s Counselling and Human Development Centre, the two-day session included practical talks on entrepreneurship, writing effective CVs, job search techniques, and surviving outside the classroom.
“We do not want our students to graduate with only certificates. We want them to leave here ready for real life,” said Dr Sa’adatu Makarfi, who heads the centre. NYSC officials, university staff, and business leaders were among those who spoke at the event, sharing candid realities and practical tools for navigating Nigeria’s challenging job market.
