The Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Professor Adamu Ahmed, has inspected the construction of a new 1,600-bed hostel complex at the institution’s main campus.
The project, located behind the Danfodio Students’ Hostel, is part of a Federal Government public-private partnership scheme with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to address accommodation shortages in universities. ABU is one of nine institutions benefiting from the initiative.
The hostel will consist of two-storey blocks for male and female students, each room designed en suite. Facilities will include alternative power, a solar-powered borehole, and shared spaces for residents.
Professor Ahmed expressed satisfaction with progress but cautioned contractors against compromising standards, describing the hostel as a “critical intervention” to ease student housing pressures.
Construction, handled by Metrospace Construction Company Ltd with Care Properties and Development Ltd as consultant, began on July 17 2025 and is scheduled for completion in April 2026.
