The founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Chief Afe Babalola, says the future of Nigeria depends on the quality of graduates produced by its universities.
Speaking at the induction of 95 pharmacy graduates into the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, Babalola stressed that integrity in both academics and ethics was vital for national development. He urged the new pharmacists to use their knowledge to strengthen the health sector, noting that 25 of them graduated with distinction.
“My experience as Pro-Chancellor of the University of Lagos taught me that the future of this country depends on the quality of students, both in terms of academics and character,” Babalola said. “We have distinguished ourselves by inculcating the requisite learning and character in our students. Do not depart from the teachings you learnt here; doing that, the future is yours.”
The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, who was also at the ceremony, called for stronger policies, flexible staffing, and the use of technology to tackle fake and substandard medicines. She highlighted post-marketing surveillance and track-and-trace systems as key to ensuring the safety of drugs.
ABUAD Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Smaranda Olarinde, urged the inductees to maintain professionalism and high ethical standards in their careers.
