African and Chinese universities have agreed to work more closely together and involve more schools in joint projects across different areas.
This agreement is part of the China-Africa Consortium of Universities Exchange Mechanism, which started in July 2023. The programme aims to strengthen cooperation in science, technology, health, farming, research, and academic studies. The framework also supports staff exchanges, cultural programmes, and scholarships for Africans pursuing postgraduate studies in China.
Speaking at a recent meeting held during the Association of African Universities (AAU) conference in Rabat, Morocco, Professor Peng Yi of the China Association for Higher Education said trust and friendship between the two regions have made cooperation easier.
Professor Samuel Donkor, Vice Chancellor of All Nations University in Ghana, described the partnership as having grown from small beginnings into a broad framework covering multiple areas of collaboration, marking a new chapter in Africa-China higher education relations.
