Agboyi-Ketu Chair Pledges Focus on Education

The new Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State, Mrs. Adetola Abubarka Oyedele, says her administration will prioritise education, healthcare, and welfare for residents, especially young people and vulnerable groups.

Speaking at the Lagos State House of Assembly complex on Thursday, Oyedele acknowledged the work of her predecessor, Mayor Dele Oshinowo, particularly in infrastructure, but stated that her government will place more emphasis on human development. “I intend to build on what Mayor Dele Oshinowo has done, but I will focus more on education. It is the bedrock of any society,” she said. She added that plans are underway to train teachers, improve learning conditions in schools, and provide support for pupils to stay focused despite distractions.

Oyedele also said she would set up a food bank to support elderly and low-income residents. “There are people who struggle to eat every day. The food bank will help them,” she said. On healthcare, she promised to improve services at the council’s primary health centres and ensure they are better equipped to handle emergencies and childbirth. The new chairman, a mother herself, also spoke about supporting girls in the community, promising a monthly distribution of free sanitary pads to schoolgirls and increased investment in their education and wellbeing. “Nobody chooses to menstruate. Sanitary pads are not optional; they are a necessity,” she said.
