The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, has urged Nigerian students to prioritise skill acquisition and active participation in nation-building as key drivers of development.
Speaking during the 26th Matriculation and 30th Anniversary celebration of Dorben Polytechnic, Abuja, Alausa, represented by Mrs Olubisi Olagbenro, Deputy Director at the Federal Ministry of Education, commended the institution’s three-decade commitment to advancing technical education.
He emphasised that innovation and practical skills, not just academic degrees, fuel national growth, citing the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), which requires every graduate to possess at least one certified skill.
The Minister also highlighted the newly activated National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a measure to reduce financial barriers to higher education. On campus safety, he urged students to remain security-conscious and cooperate with authorities to maintain peaceful learning environments.
Alausa praised Dorben Polytechnic’s founder, Dr A.B. Ekwere, for visionary leadership in bridging Nigeria’s technical skills gap. The event also featured a keynote by Dr Abdullah Usman and the launch of the institution’s 30th Anniversary Magazine.
