The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, has disowned a fake employment scheme allegedly linked to the hospital and warned the public to be cautious of fraudsters.
In a statement on Monday, Usman Koli, the hospital’s Head of Public Relations and Protocol, said that some individuals, including insiders, were collecting money from job seekers and temporary staff under false promises of securing permanent jobs.
“The management is deeply worried by reports of fraud being carried out by some criminal-minded people within and outside the hospital,” the statement read.
“These fraudsters are illegally extorting money from locum staff under the false pretence of converting their temporary appointments to permanent ones.”
Koli also warned that the hospital has no connection to such illegal acts and does not authorise anyone to collect money for employment purposes.
“All recruitments into the hospital are strictly based on due process, merit, transparency, and the approval of relevant authorities,” he added.
He said anyone caught engaging in such criminal activities will be exposed and prosecuted.
“The management views this conduct as not only shameful and unethical but also a serious criminal offence,” he said.
The hospital also promised to take action against any staff involved in such misconduct and advised the public and locum staff to report any suspicious activity. “Members of the public and all locum staff are hereby strongly advised to be vigilant, steer clear of unofficial dealings, and report any suspicious offers or solicitation of money for employment,” the statement concluded
