The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assenting to the bill converting the Federal Polytechnic Kabo into the Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo, in Kano State.

President Tinubu’s correspondence on the establishment of three new universities in Kano, Akwa Ibom, and Oyo States was read on the floor of the Senate during Tuesday’s sitting, presided over by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON.

Senator Barau, who sponsored the bill for the institution’s conversion, described the development as a significant step towards expanding access to higher education and equipping Nigerian youths with relevant skills to drive national development.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, the Deputy Senate President, stated that education remains the bedrock of societal advancement.

“As we all know, youth are the cornerstones of the development of all societies. The conversion of the Polytechnic to a University of Science and Technology aligns with global best practice. We have a large youth population in this country, and in today’s world, human capital development is vital to national economic growth and progress,” he said.

He added that science and technology disciplines such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and cybersecurity are at the forefront of global discourse, and institutions like the new university are essential for training the next generation in these fields.

Senator Barau also congratulated the management, staff, students, and host communities of the Federal Polytechnic Kabo on the institution’s elevation to a higher level.
