The University of Cambridge has announced a vacancy for a Research Associate in Climate Governance at its Department of Land Economy. The position is part of an EU-funded project titled Accelerating Climate Action: Navigating Towards a Low-Emissions, Resilient Future (ACCLIMATE).
The project aims to strengthen global and national strategies for low-emission, climate-resilient development by improving transparency and assessment frameworks for emission reduction commitments.
Working in partnership with Vrije Universiteit Brussels, Cambridge will lead a work package focused on international cooperation. The research will develop tools to evaluate global mitigation efforts, analyse the role of the Global Stocktake, and explore how international initiatives can enhance policy effectiveness.
The successful candidate will conduct empirical and theoretical research on European and international climate governance, contribute to academic publications, and collaborate with partners across continents. They will work closely with Professor Harro van Asselt and the Environmental Policy Research team.
Applicants should hold, or be close to completing, a PhD in a relevant social science field and demonstrate strong research capacity, communication skills, and understanding of international climate policy.
The post is full-time for 18 months, beginning in early 2026, with an annual salary ranging from £34,610 to £46,049.
