Africa’s richest man and Chancellor of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil, Aliko Dangote, has pledged N15 billion to upgrade the Kano State-owned university to a world-class standard.
Dangote made this known during the fifth combined convocation ceremony of the university held on May 10, 2025, where he revealed that the funds would be spread across a five-year development plan designed to improve infrastructure and academic performance.
The billionaire industrialist outlined that the funding would cover the construction of new student hostels, lecture halls, a fully equipped computer laboratory with internet access, a mini solar power plant to guarantee uninterrupted electricity, a modern Senate building, and the provision of post-NYSC and employment opportunities for top-performing graduates in engineering and related fields.
He explained that the projects would be executed in partnership with the university’s Governing Council, with proper project management systems to ensure timely and cost-effective implementation.
This development follows the Dangote Foundation’s earlier donation of N100 million in July 2024 to settle the university’s accumulated electricity debt, which led to the restoration of power supply by the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).
In addition, he had promised other interventions, including three additional hostels, ten staff residences, an upgraded water treatment plant, support for the university’s convocation, and official vehicles for key staff.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to the institution’s growth by approving the construction of road networks and drainages within the campus.
Earlier in February 2025, the governor had approved 100 hectares of land for the university’s expansion, including the development of a new Faculty of Engineering and a new Senate building.
He also ordered the immediate completion of long-abandoned projects such as the old engineering faculty and information centre.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasai, who disclosed that he inherited an N3 billion liability on assumption of office, commended the state and Dangote for their support.
He noted that over 30 of the university’s 40 academic programmes have received full accreditation. He praised the Kano State Government for allocating 31 per cent of the 2025 budget to education, exceeding UNESCO’s recommendation.
The institution, formerly Kano University of Science and Technology (KUST), was established in 2001 and renamed in 2022 in honour of Aliko Dangote’s significant contributions to its development.
