Professor Kolade Olorunleke, a Business Administration lecturer at the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), has urged Nigerians to prioritise local products and services to stimulate economic growth.
During his inaugural lecture on Thursday, titled “Management Outcomes: What You See is a Tip of the Iceberg,” Olorunleke called for a shift in mindset towards reducing reliance on imported goods, stressing that this attitude is vital for the country’s economic progress.
The professor expressed concern over the dominance of the US dollar over the Naira, describing it as unpatriotic and harmful to Nigeria’s development.
He stated that a nation cannot aspire to greatness while abandoning its currency and relying on foreign exchange.
Olorunleke argued that Nigerians must embrace local products, especially when the country’s economy faces serious challenges.
He criticised the lavish lifestyle of the elites and the widespread disregard for national interests.
He also urged the Nigerian government to improve basic infrastructure such as roads, schools, healthcare, and water facilities.
He stated that Nigerians only seek the opportunity to build their own lives, not to indulge in the excesses of a few.
The professor called for the revitalisation of small-scale industries, which he believes are crucial for the economy, just as large industries play an important role in sustaining the nation.
He further suggested that the government should prioritise the revival of industries like textiles, glass, steel, and agro-based sectors, which could empower local artisans and market vendors.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of FUL, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, praised the lecture as a significant academic event.
He added that it offered a valuable opportunity for reflection and inspired further contributions to the management field.
