Edo, Google Trains 800 Students in Tech

Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu.

The Edo State Government has partnered with Google to train 800 students in advanced digital skills under the Advanced Job Ready Tech Programme, part of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE Agenda.

Commissioner for Education, Dr Paddy Iyamu, said the training will cover fields such as data science, machine learning, computer vision, geospatial data, and natural language processing. He explained that the goal is to prepare young people for global job opportunities, noting that participants will also gain access to career fairs, internships, and remote jobs that can pay in foreign currency.

The programme is open to Edo students both in Nigeria and abroad, with options for remote participation. For those without laptops, a fully equipped Digital Hub has been set up in Benin City. Officials say the initiative will help position Edo as a hub for digital talent, giving its youth the skills needed to compete in today’s technology-driven economy.
