Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa has commended the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for its effective use of technology in conducting the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
During his visit to the Board’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, Dr. Alausa observed the real-time digital monitoring of the examination across various Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres nationwide.
The minister noted that JAMB’s adoption of the Computer-Based Test system has significantly reduced examination malpractices, ensuring a fair and transparent process for all candidates.
He expressed satisfaction with the Board’s efforts in maintaining the integrity of the examination, describing it as a model that aligns with international standards.
Dr. Alausa also spoke on the JAMB’s inclusive policies, particularly its support for physically challenged candidates through free application documents and other resources.
Looking ahead, the minister announced plans to extend the CBT model to other national examinations.
He revealed that by November 2025, both the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) are expected to commence the transition to CBT for their objective tests.
By the 2026 examination cycle, objective and essay components are anticipated to be fully conducted using the CBT format.
Dr Alausa believes this shift will curb examination malpractices and encourage students to focus on their studies, fostering a culture of academic honesty and diligence.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance the quality and credibility of Nigeria’s educational assessments.
