The Federal College of Education, Ilawe Ekiti, has matriculated its first set of students, totalling 317.
In a keynote lecture on the occasion, titled “Teacher Education and Nigeria’s National Development,” a former Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Prof Femi Mimiko, warned the students against “destiny-bursting pastimes” that could derail their future.
Mimiko described teacher education as the foundation of national growth and transformation as he reflected on the growing impact of Artificial Intelligence on education. He also called on Nigeria to embrace innovation while safeguarding moral values.
Meanwhile, the Provost of the College, Prof Ajigbade Ikuejube, congratulated the new students and charged them to uphold discipline, hard work, and moral uprightness.
Ikuejube assured, “This College is poised to, among others, raise competent teachers who will contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s educational development.”
