Ekiti Tops Nigeria’s Fiscal Transparency Ranking with Perfect Score

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State

Ekiti State has clinched the top position in Nigeria’s fiscal transparency rankings for the fourth quarter of 2024, scoring a perfect 100 out of 100 in BudgIT’s State Fiscal Transparency League Table.

The ranking, released by BudgIT Foundation, assessed states based on several criteria, including budget approval processes, quarterly budget implementation reports, audited financial statements, Accountant-General’s reports, the functionality of e-procurement portals, and the accessibility of state website data.

Ekiti’s top score reflects its adherence to these standards, showcasing its dedication to transparency and accountability in public finance management.

Commissioner for Information, Chief Taiwo Olatunbosun, attributed this accomplishment to Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s unwavering focus on fiscal discipline and open governance. He noted that the state’s consistent performance, ranking first in Q2 and Q3 of 2024 and second in Q1, demonstrates a sustained commitment to responsible governance.

Ekiti achieved an impressive 88% budget performance in 2024, with 92% revenue and 88% expenditure.

This was accomplished without borrowing, underscoring the administration’s commitment to financial sustainability.

In addition to its fiscal achievements, Ekiti was recognised as a ‘Progressive Performer,’ a status awarded to only five states. It was among the few states that attracted foreign direct investment in 2024.

Governor Oyebanji’s administration prioritises transparency and stakeholder engagement, ensuring citizens are informed and involved in governance processes.

This approach has not only earned Ekiti national recognition but also positioned the state as a model for fiscal responsibility and open governance in Nigeria.
