The immediate past Vice-Chancellor of Chrisland University, Ogun State, Prof. Chinedum Babalola, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Kola Daisi University (KDU), Ibadan, Prof. Olajumoke Morenikeji, have urged students to pursue careers in science, stressing that the future of humanity depends on scientific advancement and innovation.
The call was made during the second Distinguished Lecture of KDU’s Faculty of Applied Sciences in Ibadan. The event drew participation from several secondary schools, including Maverick College, St. Louis Grammar School, International School Bodija, Deeper Life High School, Divine Heritage College, Dee Private School, and Christ City Model College.
Prof. Babalola, who delivered the keynote lecture, emphasised that science is central to daily life and human survival. She noted that with the advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI), it has become even more essential for students to embrace science to stay relevant and contribute to solving real-world problems.
“Science is the way of life. Everything we see around us—what we eat, breathe, use, and whatever keeps us alive—is linked to science,” she said. “Now, we are into AI, and you will be left behind if you do not use it. Students should realise the importance of science and consider it as a career option. Whatever you do, use science to promote it.”
Prof. Morenikeji, who represented the Vice-Chancellor of KDU, Prof. Adeniyi Olatunbosun (SAN), also underscored the significance of science, describing it as a vital tool for human existence in the modern world.
