Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has met with the leaders of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), and representatives from the National Assembly to discuss the teachers’ strike in the FCT.
Mr Chidi Amadi, the Chief of Staff to the FCT Minister, stated that the internally generated revenue (IGR) from the Area Councils will be used to settle the outstanding salaries of teachers. Amadi mentioned that the FCT Minister has organised a committee to develop a report highlighting solutions for issues revolving around the salaries of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) officials. Comrade Olusola Oladoja, the NANS President, and Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi, Chairman of the Abaji Area Council, have urged the NUT to call off the strike for the sake of their students.
