The Federal Government has stated that any admission into Nigerian universities, polytechnics, or colleges of education not made through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) is illegal. This was announced by the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, during the 2025 JAMB policy meeting in Abuja.
Dr Alausa warned school heads to follow the approved admission process or face severe consequences, including the loss of school assets or prosecution. He said both schools and students involved will be held responsible. CAPS, introduced by JAMB in 2017, ensures fair and transparent admission by removing human influence.
The Minister stated that some schools still have many empty slots, especially in key courses such as engineering and agriculture, and attributed this to poor planning and the rush to establish new universities. He also warned against misusing the NIN during JAMB registration and promised strict monitoring to stop fake admissions and identity fraud.
