The Governing Council of the Federal University, Gashua, Yobe State, has approved the promotion of 22 academic staff, including 10 senior lecturers elevated to the rank of professor and 12 others promoted to reader.
The council’s decision was reached at its regular meeting on September 4, according to a statement issued on Friday by the university’s Head of Information and Protocol, Adamu Saleh.
In addition to the academic promotions, three non-teaching staff were converted to the academic cadre, while six senior non-teaching staff were promoted to deputy directors. The council also renewed the employment contracts of four staff members for varying periods.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Maimuna Waziri congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to deepen their commitment to research, teaching and community service. She described the promotions as an important step in the institution’s growth.
Saleh said the governing council reaffirmed its commitment to rewarding merit and hard work, stressing that the decisions were part of efforts to strengthen the university’s competitiveness and foster a culture of excellence.
Federal University Gashua, established in 2013, is one of the federal government’s newer universities and serves communities in the north-east region.
