FIBSU Reaffirms Student Advocacy, Civic Role

The Federation of Ibadan Students’ Union (FIBSU) National Council has reaffirmed its commitment to student advocacy and youth participation in governance during its monthly congress, led by National President Aare Giwa Kamorudeen Olawale.

Speaking at the meeting, Giwa urged members to remain proactive in representing student interests across institutions, stressing that FIBSU was established to defend the welfare of Ibadan students nationwide. He also called on youths to obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs), describing the ballot as the strongest tool for shaping Nigeria’s political future.

The congress also featured the unveiling of FIBSU’s National Patrons, who will mentor and support the union. Additionally, a Constitution Review Committee, chaired by Comrade Kolade Michael, was established to modernise the union’s governing document.

To promote academic excellence, winners of FIBSU’s inter-chapter debate and quiz competitions were honoured, with LAUTECH and OAU chapters emerging overall champions. The meeting was hailed as a step toward strengthening student voices and civic engagement.
