Fresh tension has erupted at the College of Education, Zing, Taraba State, as staff members accuse the institution’s management of unfair promotion practices and favouritism.
The crisis, which has unsettled academic and non-academic staff, revolves around claims that qualified employees have been repeatedly sidelined in favour of less experienced or connected individuals.
Several staff members, speaking anonymously, revealed that some workers who have met all promotion requirements since 2017 are yet to be elevated, while others with lesser qualifications have allegedly been fast-tracked.
The discontent also extends to recent appointments, including that of a Deputy Bursar, which staff claim was influenced by a conflict of interest within the governing council.
The affected employees demand immediate intervention from the Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, and the Head of Service, Dr Ahmed Kara, to probe the alleged irregularities and restore transparency in the system.
Reacting to the allegations, the college Provost, Professor Ejika Sambo, dismissed claims of bias. He said two successful promotion rounds have been conducted under his leadership, ensuring that qualified staff were duly promoted.
He acknowledged that while some staff had not been promoted, it was due to specific issues such as incomplete documentation or failure to meet established criteria.

Despite his explanation, the aggrieved staff remain unconvinced, insisting on thoroughly reviewing the promotion processes to address what they describe as lingering injustice and unfair treatment.
